Overview

If you are interested into different mountings, please see the mountings overview page.

Current status

We offer two different mounting options for the Makerbot. The Minimal mount and the Universal mount.

Comparison between Minimal and Universal mount

The minimal makerbot mount attaches directly to an Mk4 or Mk5 extruder cold end, replacing the Makerbot-provided hotend. It connects to the same mounting holes as the Mk4 hotend did.

Minimal mount advantages:
- Super-simple six-screw setup.
- Extremely cheap

disadvantages:
- Only works with a Mk4/Mk5 extruder.

The universal makerbot mount goes a step further and replaces not just the hotend, but also the dinos. You can still mount an Mk4/Mk5 extruder on it, but also a Brutstruder, a Wade's, or any of the Mendel-compatible extruder designs floating around.

Universal mount advantages:
- Works with pretty much any extruder
- Easier access to extruder mechanics

disadvantages:
- Not as cheap as the minimal mount
- Requires several minutes of assembly (see instructions linked above)
